The Newport Showhouse Guild, whose mission is "charity by design" and raising funds for Newport County charities benefiting women and children, has announced its 2006 Designer Showhouse, which will be the first in its history to highlight new construction. The exclusive Carnegie Abbey Club in Portsmouth, Rhode Island is the setting, and two distinctive custom-designed homes by builder Mark Horan, of Newport based Horan Building Company, will be decorated by some of the country's leading interior designers. The Showhouse will be held from May 5 to June 4, 2006.
The Carnegie Abbey Club is a private sporting estate that heralds a renaissance of excellence in sport, culture, art, music, politics, and intellectual life. The Club is bringing a new, sophisticated energy to the historic Newport region. In its peerless waterfront setting for yachting and golf, the Club is ushering in a new Gilded Age of glamour, attainment, and prestige.
The Carnegie Abbey Club is home of the World Leadership Guest Series, in which thought and opinion leaders from around the globe will be invited throughout the year to discuss world events with Club members. Last summer's guests were former Presidents George H.W. Bush and William Jefferson Clinton.
